Grassruts
The root of change.
A civic technology platform connecting Nigerian communities directly to their government. Report infrastructure problems. Track real-time progress. Hold institutions accountable. Built for the 200 million Nigerians who deserve better.
A country of problems
waiting to be solved.
Communities are invisible to government.
Across Nigeria's 774 Local Government Areas, millions of citizens live with broken infrastructure — roads that never get fixed, water systems that fail for months, public spaces that crumble quietly. There is no easy, organized way to tell anyone who has the power to change it.
Reports go nowhere.
When citizens do try to report problems, their complaints get lost in phone calls, WhatsApp forwards, and bureaucratic channels that were never designed for accountability. There is no tracking. There is no follow-up. There is no record.
Government lacks the data.
Local governments and agencies want to serve their communities better but often lack organised, real-time data on where the most urgent needs are. Decisions are made on guesswork instead of ground truth.
Trust has broken down.
Decades of unresponsiveness have created a deep divide between citizens and institutions. People have stopped believing that reporting problems leads to anything. That cycle of disengagement makes things worse for everyone. Grassruts is built to break it.
A direct line between
citizens and government.
Grassruts is a mobile and web platform that gives every Nigerian a structured, trackable, and dignified way to raise community issues to the people responsible for fixing them. We built it to work on slow connections, in local languages, and for people who have never trusted a tech app before.
Create your account
Download the Grassruts app and sign up in under two minutes. Choose your community manually or let GPS find your Local Government Area automatically.
Spot an issue
See a broken road? A flooded drainage? A failed streetlight? Open the app, snap a photo, drop a pin on the map, and write a short description of what you found.
Submit your report
Your report is automatically categorised by issue type and location, then routed directly to the responsible government agency or local authority.
Community validates
Neighbours can upvote your report, add their own photos, or confirm they are experiencing the same problem. Verified reports get priority attention.
Track in real time
Follow your report through every stage — Received, Under Review, In Progress, and Resolved. Every status update comes with a notification directly to your phone.
See the change
When an issue is resolved, the community gets notified. Photos of the fix are uploaded. The cycle closes and trust is built — one resolved problem at a time.
Built for real Nigeria,
not ideal Nigeria.
Every feature exists because of a real problem we found when we talked to real Nigerians about what civic engagement actually looks like on the ground.
Issue Reporting
Snap a photo, drop a location pin, write a description. Reporting a community problem takes less than 60 seconds.
Real-time Tracking
Every report has a live status — from submission through review, action, and resolution. You always know where things stand.
Community Feed
See what others in your LGA are reporting. Upvote issues you are also experiencing. Collective voice gets louder.
Government Portal
Officials get a clean, organised dashboard of incoming reports sorted by urgency, location, and issue type. No more chaos.
Offline Mode
Poor internet connection? Reports are saved locally and sync automatically when your connection returns. No report gets lost.
Multi-language Support
Available in English, Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo. Grassruts speaks the language of every Nigerian community.
Anonymous Reporting
Sensitive issues can be submitted anonymously. We protect reporters while still ensuring accountability where it matters.
Impact Analytics
Community-level data on resolution rates, response times, and most common issues. Transparency for citizens. Insight for government.
The numbers behind
the mission.
Grassruts is not a social experiment. It is a platform being built with clear targets, measured progress, and a commitment to accountability at every level — including our own.
Aligned with global
development goals.
Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Grassruts directly advances Goal 16 by promoting participatory governance, building accountability mechanisms between citizens and public institutions, and creating structured channels for community grievance resolution. When ordinary people can hold institutions accountable through data and transparency, democracy gets stronger.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
By giving communities the tools to identify and escalate infrastructure problems, Grassruts helps cities become more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. Goal 11 requires active citizen participation in urban governance. Grassruts makes that participation easy, organised, and effective for the first time at scale.
